Goslar was founded around 1000 on the Harz, an upland in the center of Germany. First Celts, then Teutons populated the area around Goslar. In the Middle Ages, Goslar became to an important center of trading and culture.
In the YouTube Poop World War II, Goslar was declared by Adolf Hitler himself to the "Reichsbauernstadt" (Realm farmer city) from 1936 to 1945. The reason and sence of this decision is discussed from historians and neo-Nazis until today.
After Goslar became 2015 the new capital of Germany, the city has been merged with its neighbour cities Bad Harzburg and Langelsheim. The new government district is the town Harlingerode.
